Deadly Premonition the Board Game Hits Kickstarter

If ever a video game garnered a cult following, then that game was, Deadly Premonition. A game so incredibly awful, yet, awfully incredible at the same time was always going to find itself with a devoted following.

And now, news lands that the murder mystery weirdness that was the video game, is coming to Kickstarter as a board game! There’s a twist I didn’t see coming!

Rising Star Games are breathing new life into the tale, as players step into once sleepy town of Greenvale and attempt to track down the nightmare fuelling, Raincoat Killer. The game promises to stay true to the original story, embracing those quirky characters and overall oddness with both hands.

The board game has been labelled a ‘passion project’ by creators, Samuel Elphick and Daniel Osuna Perez, of the Rising Star Games team. The mechanics of play are built as a 2 to 4 player card centric board game, where players take on the role of detectives and must attempt to protect the innocent, incriminate the guilty, and, work out who might be trying to pull the wool over their eyes. The traitor element is in action, as one among the detectives is actually, the killer.

Rising Star pitch the game as unique and original. Players play competitively to manipulate their own player board towards a victory condition, whilst simultaneously sabotaging the other detectives.

Samuel Elphick, project co-creator, said, “Our vision was to create a compelling, atmospheric game inspired by Deadly Premonition’s delivery of big reveals, plot twists and consequential moments. “

The venture started out as an idea between colleagues. With hopeful optimism we put together a proposal for Swery and he loved it. Way back in June 2015 we created our first prototype for “Incrimination”, which was the skeleton that Deadly Premonition: The Board Game is built upon…We hope you enjoy!”

As someone that once dipped a toe into the utterly unforgettable waters of video game Deadly Premonition, unforgettable for a number of reasons, both good, and bad, I have to say this board game has definitely grabbed my attention. I’m a big fan of the traitor mechanic, and a big fan of theme, so already I can see how this one might tick a few boxes for myself.

The game is live now over on Kickstarter, and the page for backers, or those seeking a little more information can be found here. In addition, at the time of writing, and only one day into the 30 day Kickstarter campaign, the game has already achieved full funding! The hype is real with this one!
