A board game about building human towers! Now there’s something I haven’t seen before, and, as with all original and interesting ideas in cardboard, I’m in!
Castell, the vibrant Catalonian tradition of humans climbing up other humans is landing on tables in board game form sometime around March 2018.
Published by Renegade Studios, and designed by, Aaron Vanderbeek, Castell scooped the prestigious, 2017 Cardboard Edison award. In the game players compete to build the highest and most difficult human towers across a year of festivals. Players can visit various Catalonian cities, expand their teams of Castellers, learn new building skills, and then show off their magnificent tower building prowess in competition.
Renegade Game Studios President, Scott Gaeta, said, “We love introducing our fans to intriguing and unique themes.
“Aaron Vanderbeek has put an incredible amount of time into studying this sport and it will be fun to share that enthusiasm with our fans through his game.”
With captivating art from Ossi Hiekkala, Castell the game is elegantly designed for 2-4 players, ages 14+ to play in about 60-90 min.
Quite how the tension of a teetering human tower is captured in board game form remains to be seen, however the prospect is intriguing to say the least…look out below!
